Your Dreams Can Make a Difference
I heard a story on NPR last week about
perseverance, tenacity and character.
An African-American woman from Tuscaloosa, AL
shared her experience from when she
tried to register to vote.
The white registrar made it extremely difficult.
He would ask her ridiculous questions and
then deny her the right. Her minister and mentor
told her that they would go back every day
until she was registered. He supported her
in the face of adversity and embarrassment.
Day after day she returned until she became
a registered voter. She has voted in every election
for the last 60 years.
In addition to the political injustice, this story
struck me
in many ways. This woman showed strength,
determination, courage, persistence and a willingness
to do what it takes to accomplish a dream.
We often face adversity and challenges which seem
hopeless.
We can choose to give up or persevere.
When we have a dream, belief in ourselves and support
from those around us, we are powerful.
We can accomplish our desires.
On this day in which we honor Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr.,
one of America’s greatest dreamers,
remember, you can be a visionary and change agent.
Your dream can make a difference!
