Leadership Tip
Traveling as a Tourist
August is a time for vacations.
We travel to new places
with the mindset of a tourist.
What is that state of mind?
We are curious.
We like to discover new things.
We are intrigued with different cultures
and, in fact, relish them.
We try to learn as much as we can
about others and their lands.
We are open-minded.
- What if you were a tourist in your
organization?
- What would happen if you were curious
about others?
- What if you wanted to learn about your
colleagues' backgrounds and beliefs so you could increase your
understanding of their land?
- What if you wanted to communicate in
their language?
- What if you were open to new ideas?
- What if you did not feel threatened or
frustrated by differences, and instead, celebrated them?
By becoming a tourist in your own organization
and better understanding your colleagues’ lands,
you can generate peace across departmental borders.
Your journey will be a lot more enriching and fulfilling!
