Leadership Tip
What is in your Garden of Possibilities?
I've been weeding my garden
and planting flowers in the beds
and containers on the deck.
Being the amateur gardener that I am,
I have had to consult with my neighbor
about what are weeds and what
are the best locations to plant some
of the annuals.
The garden is a great metaphor to examine
our life or to get an overview of another area
such as work or your business.
Try this exercise:
Draw the garden of your
area of exploration.
Be sure to include the various
beds, weeds, animals,
water elements and sculptures.
Ask yourself:
-
In what season is your garden?
-
What areas are in full bloom, budding or turning brown?
-
Where are the weeds? What do they represent?
-
What are the recurring (perennials) issues?
-
What kind of nurturing do various beds require to flourish?
-
Who can help take care of or offer advice about your garden?
Using the garden as a metaphor
can help you to see it more clearly.
Notice what areas need more attention to
bloom and what areas need to be uprooted.
This is a great time of year
to create a garden of possibilities.
By determining what you want to grow
and what you want to pull up,
you can take the necessary steps
to cultivating your goals.
