Leadership Tip What is in your Garden of Possibilities? I've been weeding my garden and planting flowers in the beds and containers on the deck. Being the amateur gardener that I am, I have had to consult with my neighbor about what are weeds and what are the best locations to plant some of the annuals. The garden is a great metaphor to examine our life or to get an overview of another area such as work or your business. Try this exercise: Draw the garden of your area of exploration. Be sure to include the various beds, weeds, animals, water elements and sculptures. Ask yourself: In what season is your garden? What areas are in full bloom, budding or turning brown? Where are the weeds? What do they represent? What are the recurring (perennials) issues? What kind of nurturing do various beds require to flourish? Who can help take care of or offer advice about your garden? Using the garden as a metaphor can help you to see it more clearly. Notice what areas need more attention to bloom and what areas need to be uprooted. This is a great time of year to create a garden of possibilities. By determining what you want to grow and what you want to pull up, you can take the necessary steps to cultivating your goals.
