Leadership Tip

What Can Cleaning Out Closets Teach You About Your Organization?

I cleaned out my closets over the weekend.
With the help of a friend I got opinions on
what to keep and what to discard.
All but one of the dresses had to go
as I had not worn them in years.
They were outdated or
no longer fit my style or body.

This was a conscious effort to
update and make space for new things.
How often do we do that in our organization?

Frequently we keep outdated practices or processes
because we have had them for years.
Do they fit our current business or desired goals?

We sometimes keep people
who are not a good fit in our organization
because we are comfortable or uncomfortable
at the idea of letting them go.
They may be taking the place of someone
who is better suited to our team now.

How often do we look at our client base
and ask if we are serving those who
fit our desired niche or outcomes?

Consciously stepping back to examine
your organizational wardrobe
can help you define your vision,
your image or brand,
your team and your clients.

When you do so you will create
an organization that fits where you
are now and where you want to be.
