Do I Need to Go to Oz to Get Courage?
The 70th anniversary of the movie,
The Wizard of Oz, is being celebrated
this week with a re-release of the film.
Dorothy and her friends all went to Oz
in search of something different.
As we know, the lion wanted to see
the wizard to get courage.
How courageous are you?
What and whom do you draw on for courage?
According to Bill Treasurer,
author of Courage Goes to Work,
there are three
buckets of courage.
-
Try:
Courage of initiative, trying something new.
Taking action.
-
Trust:
Courage of inaction or letting go.
Use when we delegate.
-
Tell:
Courage of voice and assertiveness.
Use for difficult
conversations or to say uncomfortable things.
You do not have to kill a Wicked Witch to gain
courage.
Ask yourself, "What do I want?"
Answering this question at a deep level
will give you clarity and desire.
For example, if you want
a collaborative and
productive relationship,
you will be more likely to gain tell
courage.
If you are overwhelmed,
you will increase your trust
courage.
Having a strong focus can help you
to strengthen one of these buckets.
By doing so you can have the courage
to achieve what you want.
And you won't have to travel to the Emerald City!
