Lessons from Costa Rica Adventure- Part 2
I do not like heights.
So what would posses
me
to swing from a cable wire
in a canopy of trees in a
Costa Rica rain forest?
I talked to several people
before undertaking
this adventure.
Friends who had done it
assured me how safe it
was
and how much fun they had had.
After seeing three girls
under the age of 8
in our group
I thought, I too, can do this.
However, this
provided little comfort
when I remembered that
most kids are
fearless.
After the guides showed us
how safe the
process was,
I put aside my fear.
I let my desire for fun and
adventure take over.
(Okay - it was still there as I
screamed
jumping off the first platform.)
Stepping out of our comfort zone
can be
scary.
It can feel like we are
jumping off the ledge as I did
and swinging without a net.
However, only when we try new things
can we
expand our circle of experience.
The more we do that,
the more
we grow and
the less we fear.
We build a courage
and trust muscle.
Like
any training,
it takes practice and
we do it one step at a
time.
Stepping outside of my comfort zone
left me
feeling powerful and exhilarated.
You do not have to zipline.
You can have a difficult conversation,
try a new way or break a
habit.
Do one thing this week and
see what happens.
